'Living a Nightmare': Families of Missing Young People Await News After Ski Resort Fire
The families of teens missing after a deadly inferno at a bar in a Swiss ski resort are facing an excruciating wait for confirmed information and appealing for any details about their family members via social media.
The fire engulfed the a popular bar in Cans-Montana, located in the Swiss Alps of south-west Switzerland, in the small hours of New Year's Day. Confirmed video reveal the roof structure being engulfed in flames as bottles with fireworks are held aloft.
Officials have stated that it could take an extended period to identify the those who perished of the tragedy, which killed four dozen individuals and injured another over a hundred. A spokesperson stated on the latest update that the majority of the those hurt have been accounted for, with the process continuing to identify the other six.
In the meantime, relatives have been taking to the internet to plead for clues about their friends who were at the bar that fateful night.
Heartbreaking Pleas for the Unaccounted For
The fate of teenager from Switzerland Arthur Brodard, 16, are still unconfirmed, according to an heartfelt request from his family.
The resident of a town near the city, informed a local newspaper that she had returned to the city to check whether he was in the medical facility, while his father did the same in the capital, but did not locate him.
"I'm living a nightmare, a nightmare. The options are finding my son in the hospital mortuary, or I find him in intensive care. Words cannot describe it," she stated.
She continued that some of his companions had been found with injuries covering nearly half their bodies. "There are no words; they went through a terrifying ordeal."
The Italian government has confirmed that a number of of its young people remain missing.
Among them is Emanuele Galeppini, a 16-year-old junior golfer, who hailed from Italy but now living in the UAE.
The Italian Golf Federation has stated that he is no longer with us, without mentioning the fire, honoring a "young athlete who carried with him passion and true sportsmanship."
His parent, reportedly stated that his son was at the bar and was last in contact around the new year. An official spokesperson has indicated that a formal confirmation of his death is awaited.
Further Missing Individuals
Giovanni Tamburi, 16, is also among the missing. His mother said that he had been on holiday but had gone out with a group and found himself at the venue.
"Someone with him informed me they ran away after the fire broke out and that he had his mobile with him, but then at a certain point he lost sight of him," she recounted, adding he had been wearing a distinctive piece of jewelry.
One of his teachers stated, "I've always been struck by his kindness and positive demeanor, alongside great maturity. Often ask if help out."
Alice Kallergis, who holds both Swiss and Greek citizenship but lives permanently in the country, was also at the bar on that night, according to sources.
Her brother has posted an urgent request online, saying the family has had "no information" regarding the teenager or the group she was with, who are also reported missing.
Consular authorities from her other nation say they are closely watching the situation.
