Kansas City Chiefs Confirm Alleged Abuse Claims Connected to Player Rashee Rice

The NFL franchise released a comment on Wednesday evening stating they are aware of claims of abuse circulated in online accounts by a ex-partner of player the athlete and were in communication with the NFL.

The organization omitted the name of Rice specifically in their announcement and stated they would have “no further comment at this time”.

Claims Shared on Social Media

The woman, who likewise did not name the athlete by name, shared a set of images on Instagram that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. She did say the individual in question was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has two children with the football player, whom the team selected in the second round.

Police Reports Reportedly Not on File

No official complaints were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.

Player's Prior Off-Field Troubles

The receiver was absent for the initial part of this NFL campaign due to an NFL suspension for his role in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that resulted in multiple people injured. He was given a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.

On the field, he finished the year with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs finished with a losing record and missed the playoffs for the first time in a decade.
