Eulogies Continue for Rob and Michele Reiner as Autopsy Reports Face a Security Hold.
More than two weeks after the tragic deaths of esteemed film director Rob Reiner and his partner, photographer Michele Reiner, friends and colleagues are still paying respects to the pair.
Quoting a Classic: Cary Elwes Remembers His Director
Sharing on Instagram, actor Cary Elwes, who was featured in Reiner's iconic movie *The Princess Bride*, explained he just recently felt able to share openly about his profound loss.
"Sufficient time has elapsed that I can now articulate my loss into words," posted Elwes, adding that his first meeting with Reiner made him fall in love. "Once we started spending more time together I knew this was someone I longed to have in my life."
The actor shared behind-the-scenes footage from the production, remarking that he could not remember "one day without joy".
"This story is about devotion, fidelity and selflessness. Principles that Rob held dear. Which is among the many reasons he was the best person to guide it," Elwes expressed.
He went on to praise Michele Reiner, noting: "Asserting that they were a formidable pair would be an oversimplification. My heart still pangs every time I remember you." He ended with a line from *The Princess Bride*: "Sure, death cannot stop true love but living is anguish without you."
Martin Scorsese Recalls a Colleague and Comrade
In a distinct essay, legendary director Martin Scorsese shared memories of Reiner, whom he first met in the 1970s.
"Immediately, I loved spending time with Rob. We had a instant connection for each other. He was hilarious and sometimes bitingly funny, but he was never the kind of guy who would take over the room," Scorsese wrote.
Scorsese pointed out Reiner's acting part in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, portraying the father of the protagonist.
"He could improvise with the best. He was a master at comedy, he worked seamlessly with the cast, and he understood the personal struggle of his character," Scorsese wrote.
Judicial Actions: Autopsy Reports Sealed
This week, a Los Angeles court official decided to bar the release of the Reiners' autopsy reports, at the request from the LAPD.
A judicial mandate issued a security hold on the cases to restrict the public release of "all case details, documents, files or images" connected to the probe.
The Medical Examiner's office had previously confirmed their deaths were the result of foul play, with a record listing the cause as "multiple sharp force injuries".
Response and Criticism
Following the deaths, public individuals offered divergent responses.
Ex-President Donald Trump wrote on the matter, providing provocative statements that were widely condemned by several individuals.
Podcaster Joe Rogan contributed his perspective to the detractors last week. Speaking on his show, Rogan characterized the remarks as "shocking" and suggested they demonstrated a worrisome lack of empathy.
Rogan ended by proposing that an aide should have intervened when the decision to comment on the death was made.
