A Mountain of Anime Updates Arrived During the Holidays

The Yuletide season present a plethora of pastimes considerably more enjoyable than checking the updates: discovering surprises, getting stuffed on holiday treats, and using patience techniques to not snapping at relatives. It is wished you were able to do all these things and more. However, the world of entertainment never sleeps, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. Many thrilling developments came out during the holidays, and should you missed some of them, here is a compilation of the juiciest bits.

The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Is Moving Forward (Come 2027)

Without a doubt the most surprising piece of news, the widely-criticized controversial season that was the third season of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to halt further production. Season 3 will come back with a second cour in 2027—a date so remote they easily could have dubbed it season 4. Even more shocking, animation studio J.C. Staff will remain in charge. On a positive note this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is attached to direct from the start, which is seen as a hopeful indicator. Yet, the key visual for the continuation is identical to the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This makes me think that, nowadays, they could be teasing the fans.

The Ruri Dragon Series Is Poised to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has forged a name for being an prestigious animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the high caliber of its output but for the fair treatment of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had not adapted an anime adapted from a manga published in Shonen Jump, possibly the best-known magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became widespread acclaim when it launched in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the creator's health issues. When it returned with a reduced workload, the series showed it hadn't lost the fans' support and goodwill, and now everyone is overjoyed about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.

The Kingdom Series Its Sixth Season Is Getting a Follow-Up Now in the Works

Kingdom is the highly popular, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've haven't come across it before, it's because it only recently got an English release, but the anime has been going on for years, and its sixth season was a further excellent entry. It turns out that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been announced as in production, and it will very likely air in 2026.

Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series

A further studio known for the superior craftsmanship of its work, Science Saru has given us critically acclaimed works of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the true story of Fatima, an prominent woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and intriguing visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my watchlist.

Tougen Anki Is Set to Continue With a Season Two

Immediately following the airing of episode 24, it was revealed that Tougen Anki will be receiving a follow-up. Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The new season of the anime will delve into the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete premiere date has not yet been announced.
